On the Seventh day of April, Nineteen Thirty Eight
George John Gialelis entered lifetime's gate
Born of good Helenic stock in Scoupi; that's in Greece
The energy of this great man never seemed to cease. |
A good kind hearted person, even from his birth,
He went to school with Lucki, his dearest friend on Earth.
They both were very mischievous, devious and bold,
But the many naughty things they did never can be told. |
In Nineteen Fifty Six he sailed towards Australian shores
And looked around this country, finding different chores.
In Sixty Six he met a girl and married Konstandina,
For such a lovely lady, he couldn't have been keener. |
In Greece he owned a theatre, was an undertaker too;
But that was such a dead end job, he wanted something new.
A taxi driver he became when back on Aussie soil.
A job he really cherished and loved the hours of toil. |
He even owned a restaurant with excellent cuisine.
You sure would feel replenished when he was on the scene.
But the owner of a restaurant must work when day is done;
And feed the hungry patrons while the rest are having fun. |
With family and all his friends, he loves to entertain
And dances just like Zorba in the sun or in the rain.
He used to love his glass of beer ; that is when he was leaner,
And when he'd had a drop too much, he'd pass it on to Dina. |
George and Dina had two kids; Maria first, then John,
And ten years later, big surprise, the twins then came along.
Eva and twin sister Vicki, apples of his eye.
He looks at them today and thinks ‘My how the time does fly.' |
Most of the time throughout his life, our George was very happy;
But the one thing that he hates to do is change the baby's nappy.
He's not too keen on house work; it's really not much fun
And when it comes to painting, he'd rather have it done. |
Now George just loves to exercise. He's fit and tough and strong
So if you're fearing danger, just take our George along
He's a brown belt in Karate so people please watch out
And all the kids are well behaved when Papou is about. |
The children love their Papou He will play with them all day
He often goes out walking and they're with him all the way.
He sometimes picks the children up as they come out of school.
A very caring Papou; They think he's pretty cool. |
He's a wonder in the garden. He keeps it trimmed and neat.
Flowers, vegies shrubs and herbs and even silverbeet.
A real green thumb he surely has, he digs and rakes and hoes,
And if you'd ask his secret he just says, "I plant, it grows". |
Our George has just turned seventy and still enjoying life
With children and grandchildren and a very lovely wife.
Now everyone has gathered here on this, his special day.
So fill your glasses, raise them high and shout hip hip hooray.
